The more you understand normal physiology, you look at simple vitamins and minerals, and you realize that something as simple as a Magnesium deficiency can cause all kinds of problems. Magnesium is involved with over 600 processes such as energy production of the mitochondria, protein synthesis, carbohydrate metabolism, and synthesis of nucleic acid in DNA production.

Magnesium is also critical for maintaining DNA stability. If you get an unstable genome, that can set you up for Cancer and many other common diseases. Only 1% of the body’s magnesium is in the serum in the blood and 99% is inside the cell. Magnesium is linked to many things such as uncontrolled inflammation, which increases your risk to 95% of all diseases. Magnesium is a major player in your immune system. As your own immune system is doing its work, it kicks off oxidants and those oxidants produce from normal pathways. 90% of free radicals are part of normal processes. The #1 producer is the mitochondria.

As we run out of magnesium or drop below optimum levels not optimum for us, the intelligence within the body will decide either to shut down the pathway that runs the heart or shutdown the pathway to shut down sleep. Pathways get shutdown in order of priority. So, magnesium deficiency can result in poor sleep.

  • Severe magnesium deficiency can lead to sustained inflammation, diabetes, unrelieved stress, chronic infections, and unrelieved trauma.
  • Magnesium creates a breakdown of lipids, causing oxidated damage.
  • Magnesium is a natural channel blocker, which means that without magnesium blood pressure can increase.
  • Magnesium is significantly involved with the immune system.
  • Magnesium can be replenished over time.
  • Magnesium is also involved with Vitamin D deficiency, both of which are major players in the proper functioning of the immune system. As you get older, many people are depleted in magnesium and Vitamin D, which is why they get more colds, infections, etc.
  • Magnesium deficiency also causes break down in the lipid production in the liver. If someone starts to have issues with their liver, they may be told to take acetaminophen. Acetaminophen can cause a major reaction known as “acetaminophen poisoning”

Magnesium is one simple mineral that we don’t have that can cause a massive number of problems.
