In this week’s video, Dr. Farley discusses autoimmune disease. Autoimmune is a problem that affects more patients than cancer and heart disease combined, and it causes chronic irregularities within an afflicted person’s body. There are three stages to autoimmune disease, and symptoms begin at the second stage. However, autoimmune disease can be detected even at the first step, so long as the proper testing is performed. Most stage three diagnoses are identified by the problems they cause, usually being named one of the top 4 or 5 most common autoimmune diseases.

However, autoimmune is a disease capable of affecting all parts of your body. Sometimes it will limit itself to certain organs, such as the pancreas, the heart, the liver, or other bodily systems, but systemic autoimmune disease can also occur. In this case, autoimmune attacks the DNA or DNA components within every cell in your body, and / or attacks collagen proteins that are inside you. Because it attacks all of your body parts, including your brain, this type of autoimmune is much more severe. If you’re experiencing chronic irregularities in your body, or are curious about autoimmune and how to test for it, contact the office with any questions to protect your health in both the short and the long term.
